Jonah,Rachel,PJ,Heather,Alex and Gav. KTF
HURRYUP
IMO and for
me personally, what the venue lacked, the weather certainly made up for
From the minute we got to Skeggi on Friday to this morning when we left - there
wasn't a cloud in the sky - we could have been in Tenerife (good luck to
everyone going - hope you manage to get there)
COOPS
Skegg weekender april 2010
I'm not going to
concentrate on the lower-than-normal numbers at this event surfice to say
Prestatyn et al have suffered drops in numbers this year due to many reasons,
not least the financial climate which is hanging over us all in these days of
famine. Having said that I must say (and this is a tried-and-tested silver
lining), 'There was room to dance…. For a change!
The one negative
that has occasionally been stapled to the Skegg Weekender is oft; "No room to
dance upstairs, too many people standing round the floor". Well, not this
weekend.
It was most
certainly a dancers weekend.
We only popped
up to the 'main room' on a couple of occasions to have a dance, once on Friday
whilst 'Smudge' was on and once on Saturday while Pete Taylor was on and it was
very refreshing not to have to 'fight' for a space on the floor which was never
actually bereft of dancers just not too many to groove.
Spent most of
Friday night in the 'Vault'.
For my ears the
music there was spot-on but I do empathies with those Vault-Lovers of old who
say it has lost it's identity but…. hold on…. I think when the announcement for
the style, format and content of the September Weekender (and it's far from my
job to announce it) is made those who loved the initial concept of the Vault
will be both pleased and pacified and I feel will return to Skegg with renewed
vigor.
For me, Rob Kay
and Brendon Carroll filled my Soul on Friday and Mich 'H' with Soul Sam also
played some tunes to remember but were fighting the lower than usual numbers in
the Vault to make it actually 'Rock', (but, as I say, just wait while
September).
Saturday
evening, for the most part (until
04:30 a.m.) I was in the third room, the Bar Life, which was put on in
partnership with the Square Peg Soul Collective. The best of current 60s, oldies
and modern from a whole host of dee-jays who turned up for mere pennies just
because they love what they do, as did all those present.
On a personal
note I'd like to thank Sharon, Mak, Pilgrim, Hobbo, Rupe, Smudge, Martin
Stanford, Steve 'Jay' and Andy Riley for making this third room a very special
part of the weekend.
The Bar Life has
a part to play in September's weekender that is going to lift the usually
over-subscribed autumnal trip to the east coast but, again, it's not for me to
announce the changes.
I had a great
weekend, not as frenetic as usual but just as soulful. Met many people I had
never met before and soaked up the fantastic Skegness sunshine surrounded by
soulful music and a host of people who are second-to-none.
Septembers'
changes…. Bring it on, I'm ready.
SONBERT
Did BIZ

A WAY OF LIFE NS
HI dave and
donna had a fantastic weekend and enjoyed the spots the djs played and variety
of soul been played ,as my spectrum of soul is vast as long as it grooves i like
old and new and as a dancer i agree with coops it was nice to be able to dance
without been to crushed up by people on edge of floor the weather was fantastic
and enjoyed the bar life room after party saturday till 4.30am as well as the
other two rooms in main venue and the friendly atmosphere skeggy creates its
like one big soul family, each year i go i meet more people and this is what
creates that nice soulful vibe well done dave and donna keep up the good work

Me and Karen
really enjoyed this Weekender.
After a bit of a slow start Friday ( still a nice amount of bodies in though )
the Weekend got better and better finishing off with an absolutely brilliant
night in the Bar Life Sunday night ( Karen said brilliant spot Yocky )
Looking forward to the positive changes in September Dave for the Vault..
All the best
Steve B
DAVE RAISTRICK
Thanks Steve,
Pleased that You and Karen had a good time at 'SKEGGY' once again. Yes changes
are planned and the news is that in September onwards the 'VAULT' will go back
to it's original format of Rare and seldom played 60s, All-niter sounds and
R'n'B tunes all mixed in with a set of early 70s crossovers that work in that
room.
Modern Soul fans, Don't worry we have now a 3rd room that will cater for ALL
your 80s, 90s and Y2K+ Needs - So all in all everbody will have a greater choice
at the Skeggy Weekender, and of course the DJs in the main Imperial Ballroom
will continue to play ALL the classics and current dancefloor favourites.
Next Skegness Weekender date 24th, 25th, 26th September 2010
All the very best
Dave.
SPOT
Fianally found the
thread, thought it odd that it wasn't in "Weekenders & Nighters Lookback" but
what do I know!!!!!
Stroke of genius
Dave to move dates to April, from the minute I kerbed my alloy at the Humber
Bridge till tapping the garage door with the front bumper on Sunday afternoon
the sun never stopped shining & Skeggy seemed alive with holiday makers & all
with great big grins on their faces, funny what a little sunshine can do to a
persons outlook on life.
So Friday lunch
with enough provisions to travel to the Klondike for the gold rush of we set,
landing at Tamla Coffee shop for refreshments with Dave & any passing Soulies
about 2pm followed by a stroll down the front with Hobbo, who's on his way to
work, to the Littern Tree for 2 for £8 & a bottle of wine for a £5, good value
or what!!!! Back to Hotel for S.S & S followed by a nap then down to bar to meet
up with the usual suspects, Mark & the Spalding crew,Soul Sam, Dick & Mary,
Brendon & Michelle who was limbering up to do Brendon some bodily harm if he
couldn't find her shoes in the motor, second time lucky when he looked,
therefore saving a call to the Emergency Services.
Early entry (I
should be so lucky) & the Double D's are there to welcome everyone as if they
are long lost friends with kisses & smiles, Joy is at her usual station keeping
a close eye on all entrants while selling her wares, Yocky & Nell are close by
with a miriad of jokes & stories. A quick foray upstairs to find & greet
Snowy,Jonah,Rach,Pete,Jean,Ken & Carolyn,Ali & Chrissie,Mikey & the ladies plus
Keith the badge man, I can only manage short burst in the Oldies vacinity
nowadays as I can only bear to hear
Billy Butler,Bobby Freeman or The Brothers once every couple of months without
suffering migraines & breathing difficulties, so it's back to the Vault to join
Andy & Deb,Carol,Rupe,Den,Rob & the luvly "Our Vicky", Gainey & Deb,Zurich Steve
also Co-ops & crew. Brendon played a great spot including Voicemasters-When a
woman & Composers-Get to the point, also thought Steve Austin played a nice spot
but to be fair they all did & at the end Mick H really changed things around &
played some different stuff to his norm.
Staurday up
bright & breezy to be greeted by glorious sunshine yet again, leisurely
breakfast then out for papers, walk through the gardens & onto the shops where
we bump into Zurich who has missed his train home, so we spend an hour with him
then off we go again to the Tamla C.B. were we're joined by Jonah & Rach plus
various odds & ends as the time passes before a romantic walk back passed the
log flume & laughing policemen & tracksuit tourists, bliss.
Power nap then it's up & at 'em again for the main event, tonights the night the
stars arrive in Arthur,Ginger & Poolie,
so the room of swirling skirts & baggie trousers will be as humid & sweaty as
usual & the chin strokers & floaters will be there in numbers also, and so it
came to pass.I spent a lot of the time downstairs near the door luxuriating in
any cool fresh air that came my way whilst watching the Dancing Virgil Tracy
homing in with his female pucker up sonar & scoring a hit everytime, we were
also blessed with the presnce of the Wonderful Whizzy of Oz,
Billy, who it turned out was a Skeggy virgo intacto & nodoubt he found a small
niche to show off his moves.Throughout the evening the odd local tried their
hand at getting passed Deadly Donna & the Doormen, the funniest being a young
girl being asked if she had her band & stating "yes, I've been in before"
& when asked to show it she threw out her arm, shook her wrist & produced a
Pandora charm bracelet, needless to say it was exit stage left for her, then
there was Shakin' "Jesus" Stevens who was more of a danger to himself in the
fact that he could hardly stand up but even Dave had had enough when he turned
the staircase into Niagara Falls by knocking over his ale,
you just couldn't write it could you!!!!! Music I hear you cry, Tats superb as
ever, Arthur his usual well put together set & Steve Jay I thought was
exceptional but once again not a lot to choose between them all.
Made the mistake
of being talked into going to Bar Life & although I spent an enjoyable hour with
Little Tony & Big Andy as well as Den,Vicky & Rob,I didn't hit the pit till 5:30
so 3 hour kip before brekkers, not wise with a 2 hour drive home at lunch time,
so the usual goodbye's till next time to our Hotel comrades, a long lazy Coffee
at Tamla with Dave, Donna,Haley,Hobbo,Richard & Julie, then it's homeward bound
cos when you've seen Yocky & Nell unrobed once you never actually get over it &
I still get flashbacks.
Had a great
weekend with even greater folk, at a great venue & great music, forget the
numbers cos people don't like change but they get use to it & by September it'll
be "What recession??".
Take care,be
safe & remember,"Sunshine on a rainy day,Makes my soul drip, drip,drip away,",
Spot.
FOTHERS
Got to
skeg sunday lunch time in the sunshine & the arfternoon in the main room was
good music & a nice crowd still in there, bar life sunday night was really decent
with a good crowd in later & lots of dancing great spot from Yocky as always.
Nice to talk to Yocky & joy, dave & donna in the cafe on Monday before driving
up to the north yorkshire coast for the week. People did say that the weekend
was down on numbers but everybody said how good the music had been over the
weekend & what a great time they had, and the fact they could get on the floor
for a good dance Thanks for the weekender sticker dave & remembering!
All being see you for the next one Pete
